    New Children's Diabetes Center Creates Cohesive Care
    A New Place Just for Kids... That's what all the fuss was about on August 14 during the Open House Celebration at the new location for WakeMed Children's Diabetes & Endocrinology Center. Now, families have one centralized place to turn to when facing the fact that a child has diabetes or pre-diabetes.

    The Endowment invites proposals for projects that improve access to health care for children and youth. Submitted proposals should target one of the following outcomes: 1) improving the system of primary physical and/or mental health care for children and youth; 2) reducing disparities in access to physical and/or mental health care for children and youth; or 3) improving the information technology (IT) capacity of agencies providing physical and mental health services to underserved children and youth. A letter of intent must be emailed to Kate Shirah (kate@rexendowment.org) by 5 p.m. Thursday, November 6.

    With support from the John Rex Endowment and several other partners, The Parks and Recreation Partnership for a Healthier Wake created a guide to trails and greenways maintained by the county and its municipalities. Maps and trail information are organized by community and feature a "Don't Miss!" trail for each town. Copies are also being distributed in the community, and you can download a PDF from our website [10mb].

    Award-Winning ENERGIZE! Program Turns Kids into Champions
    Through ENERGIZE!, a 12-week, family-based program for children ages 6 to 18 with pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes, kids learn how to build lifelong, healthy attitudes about food and fitness. For kids like Ashle and Alex, who weren't actively involved in athletics at the time of pre-diabetes diagnosis, the program has strong record of success.
