  • Action for Children NC - Emphasis is on improving the ways in which government and public policy affect the lives and life prospects of all NC children and youth. The Institute compiles and widely shares accurate, up-to-date statistics; analyzes indicators of child well-being; and, conducts policy research and development. Their 2006 report, "Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll: What Teens Do, What Parents Assume and What Parents Can Do," (pdf) provides concrete, research-based steps that parents can take to positively influence teen decision making.
     
  • Children's Defense Fund - An advocate organization for America's children paying particular attention to the needs of poor and minority children and those with disabilities. The goal of the Child Health Division is to help all children gain access to comprehensive, quality, health care services.
     
  • Covering Kids and Families - Addresses the need to reduce the number of uninsured children who are eligible for public health care coverage programs but not enrolled. The NC Pediatric Society foundation is the lead state agency working with local coalitions to develop and evaluate strategies to identify and enroll all eligible children in both Medicaid and SCHIP, to simplify and make routine the enrollment/re-enrollment process and to coordinate initiatives.
     
  • Health Check and NC Health Choice - Website offers one-stop-shop of information and resources to help make outreach easier and to offer a forum for sharing outreach experiences.
     
  • Kaiser Family Foundation - The Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured provides information and analysis on health care coverage and access for the low-income population, with a special focus on Medicaid's role and coverage of the uninsured.
     
  • North Carolina Institute of Medicine - A non-political source of health policy analysis and advice in North Carolina.
